Jeff Bailey Gallery is pleased to present Alyse Ronayne: Live Inside Your Head, an exhibition of new drawings and paintings.

Ronayne begins her drawings by aggressively moving chunks of charcoal and graphite over the smooth surface of printmaking paper.  The marks left on the paper are flattened remnants of an object’s edges, tips and curves. The drawings document three-dimensional objects leaving two-dimensional traces behind. Titled Compress to Express, the drawn forms suggest ribbons, strings, trails of smoke, bodily shapes and mechanical parts.

A series of paintings titled Material Presentation are encrusted with paper pulp and urethane foam on canvas. Although nearly monochrome, flecks of color run throughout. Several inches thick, their rough materiality stands in contrast to the smooth surface of the drawings. In both bodies of work, Ronayne pushes flat form into a sculptural realm.

Alyse Ronayne received an MFA from Bard College, NY (2015) and a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art (2008). Her work has been included in exhibitions at Greenpoint Terminal Gallery, Brooklyn; Underdonk, Brooklyn and Zolla/Lieberman Gallery, Chicago. Her work will be included in upcoming exhibitions at Mulherin, New York and the Leslie-Lohman Museum, New York. She lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
