Jeff Bailey Gallery is pleased to present Bill Adams, Sunup, an exhibition of recent drawings and paintings.
It’s morning in America. Again. The promise of a new day beckons, and with it, better times. Or not. With the 2016 presidential election upon us, how do we sort out what’s true, what’s not and what we really want?
Bill Adam’s cat-like creatures and animal hybrids confront the world head on. Their faces may be youthful, marked by time or maimed, but they are fully aware and engaged. They tower above the horizon with flowing manes, their presence comforting, their gaze wise. They start their day. There is work to be done.
But there is a clown in the midst. Does he make us happy or sad? Enrage or console? Provoke laughter or tears? And if we laugh, is it funny?
The sun will come up. Tomorrow.
Bill Adams’ solo exhibition, Blue Madness, was recently on view at the University of Kentucky Art Museum, Lexington, KY. He has had numerous solo exhibitions in New York and four at Kerry Schuss Gallery, where he is represented. He is in a two-person exhibition with Ted Gahl at Freddy, Harris, New York through June 25. Adams received his MFA in 1986 from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. He lives and works in New York.
