Jeff Bailey Gallery is pleased to present new paintings by Erik Schoonebeek.
Erik Schoonebeek’s paintings and drawings are made on found paper, old book covers and other materials. Using existing patterns and graphic designs as foundations for his own compositions, Schoonebeek wittily blurs the distinction between what is vintage and new. Pots become portholes, webbed patterns suggest body shapes and loopy lines evoke logos and cartooning.
Schoonebeek’s first solo exhibition with the gallery was in 2012. His work has been exhibited at David Shelton Gallery, Houston; Rawson Projects, Brooklyn; DNA Gallery, Provincetown; Geoffrey Young Gallery, Great Barrington; Brick Walk Fine Art, West Haven, CT and Roos Arts, Rosendale, NY. He received his MFA from Rutgers, State University of New Brunswick, NJ in 2011 and his BFA from State University of New York at New Paltz in 2006. He lives and works in Brooklyn.
